Guest Post Submission

Are you a local mom with something to say? A funny story to share, a local business* to rave about? We welcome submissions for guest posts!

Guest Blogger Guidelines

1 :: Think LOVE.

Write what you love and love what you write.

2 :: Think LOCAL.

We love to keep all of our content relevant to the Boston area. Blog posts can feature local businesses, local things to do, local events, etc. More general topics (feeding, potty training, crafting, DIY, etc.) can be given a local twist, simply because they are written by a local mom – YOU. When your content falls into these more generalized topics, look for ways to personalize them and connect you and your family’s experience back to Boston.

3 :: Think MOMS.

It may sound obvious, but our targeted audience is made up of moms (and largely those with babies and young kids). Content should remain under the broad category of parenting writing, within which you have a ton of subtopics to choose from: the experience of being a mom, stages and phases of babies and kids, products and tips to make life with kids more fun/easier/better, home management strategies specific to moms, and, of course, all the locally-focused ideas mentioned earlier.

4 :: Think SMALL.

At Boston Moms Blog, we LOVE small businesses and we love to tell our readers where to find them. If you have a local resource to share that fits with what you are writing about, please tell us, because we really want to know! Please note that a guest post is different than a sponsored post. We ask that our guest bloggers refrain from promoting businesses with which they have a financial affiliation.  Your post should not be focused solely on one business, but can mention them with a link back once.

5 :: Post Submission.

Posts should be in narrative form.  Once you submit your post, it is property of Boston Moms Blog and we will edit as necessary (sorry, no back and forth with edits).  Your submission of a guest post does not guarantee publication on the Boston Moms Blog platform.

6 :: Frequency.

In general, guest posting is a 1 time submission (unless we discuss otherwise).  We have a dedicated team of contributors who write regular content for the blog.  If you wish to write for us more, we welcome you to apply at our next contributor open call.

7 :: Include A Bio.

Please provide a bio (100 words or less) and headshot when you submit your post. You may link to your business and/or personal blog in your bio if you have.

Please also take care with these guidelines:

  • Your post must be original and not published before on the Internet.  You agree to not publish the post anywhere else (i.e., on your own blog or as a guest post on other blogs).  We would love if you linked to it, but you cannot republish the whole post.
  • Word count is up to you. We recommend a range of 300-600 words. In most cases posts longer than 800 words should be broken up into a series. Let us know well in advance if you think this is the case with your post.
  • Kinda obvious but we have to say it, content should be free from the following: profanity, sexual language, political endorsement of a party or candidate, political commentary, op-ed commentary on controversial social and/or political issues, and derogatory or inflammatory language.
  • Please don’t use SEO anchor text for your links.
  • Please include at least 1 picture or graphic, though the more the better!  Please ask if you need any help or guidelines creating graphics.  All photos that are not your own should be royalty free (ask if you need help finding stock photos).

{Note: We do NOT accept “guest post” marketing pitches from copywriters looking to exchange content for links, from writers affiliated with other sites or businesses, or from non-Boston-area writers. Due to a large increase in these kind of guest post pitches, we are unable to respond to your pitch unless you follow the guidelines below exactly.}

To be considered for a guest post, please fill out the following form:

  • Submit at least two (2) writing samples.

    Links to your personal blog count, but please link to specific posts (those that show off your writing chops) rather than the home page.

    OR you may submit a complete, original blog post (writing samples not required if submitting a completed piece). You can request our Guest Post Guidelines for further assistance. Please follow the guidelines carefully if submitting a completed piece; it will increase your chances of getting published.

  • Drop files here or
    Accepted file types: doc, docx, pdf.
    Upload original blog post to be published or email to [email protected]

We will respond to all pitches that follow the above guidelines within two weeks.

* If you are a local business owner and want to reach our audience, we’d love to talk to you about advertising options. We ask that guest bloggers refrain from writing about businesses with which they have a financial affiliation.
