Sometimes it’s really nice to get out from behind the computer and spend time with your fellow moms. That’s why a few nights ago you could find the Boston Moms Blog team at barre3 in Brookline, lifting, toning, and sweating our way through a class with the incredible Simone.
After working hard for an hour, we spent some time learning about and celebrating some great local and women-owned businesses. We’ve dubbed this list BMB’s Favorite Things (#BMBFaveThings) and are so excited to share it with you!

Ava's Caramel Popcorn
Proprietor and confectioner Ava Vatsky grew up eating outstanding caramel popcorn, thanks to frequent care packages mailed to her from her grandparents in the the Midwest (a region that is home to particularly ardent fans of caramel popcorn, or “caramel corn”). Working from her master recipe for sea salt caramel popcorn, Ava created an innovative line of flavors showcasing the irresistible combination of caramel, chocolate, and nuts.
After years of research and development, meticulous testing, and scores of kitchen trials, Jason knew his slow-cooked, small-batch caramels ought to be cut and wrapped exactly as they were back in the day.
Enter the early 20th century retooled classic wrapping machine built in Springfield, MA. The elegant, single-motor, complex set of gears cuts McCrea’s caramels just as it was designed to and turns out over 100 cellophane-wrapped pieces per minute.
Slow, really, when you think about it. But when you’re making the best, world fame is earned one caramel at a time.

Beautycounter is a brand focused on three pillars — education, products, and advocacy. Beautycounter is a B Certified corporation that aims to educate consumers on how unregulated the personal care product industry is, in an effort to help people make safer choices for themselves and their families. Beautycounter’s niche is safe but high performing — you don’t have to sacrifice your health to get results. And their advocacy is in putting their money where our mouth is, as they travel to D.C. and meet with the House and Congress to work to pass legislation to protect loved ones both here and in Canada.
