Break out the broom — it’s spring cleaning time! I love opening up my windows (once this snow is gone!), making my house spic and span, organizing rooms, and cleaning out closets. I always end up with tons of clothes, toys, and other stuff I need to get rid of, so I’ve created a list of places to donate your gently used goods in the Boston area.
The Somerville Homeless Coalition: Accepting food, new toiletries, and household items (like detergent, wipes, and soap).
Big Brother Big Sister: They take a lot of gently used items and will even come pick them up from your house.
Epilepsy Foundation: You can drop off books, dishes, toys, clothing, and more — or they’ll swing by and grab them for you.
Vietnam Vets of America: These guys claim they will accept “almost anything.” And they’ll come pick it up, too.
Cradles to Crayons: Donate your gently used baby clothing and equipment (like strollers and car seats that are less than five years old).
Solutions at Work: This Cambridge-based non-profit will take your gently used men’s and women’s business casual clothing and accessories.
The Little Fox Shop: This tiny shop, located in Arlington’s Fox Library, takes kids’ clothes, toys, games, and more. You must drop off.
The Salvation Army: Clothes, furniture, appliances, cards, you name it and they’ll probably take it. Schedule an easy pick up.
In addition to what’s listed above, you can also contact your local fire or police department, daycare, shelter, or church to see if they are in need of anything you have.
