We've partnered with PJ Library to share the gift of books with you and your family!

‘Tis the season for holiday gifting. It seems like our to-do and to-buy-for lists are so long at this time of year, and finding thoughtful gifts for the ones you love can be challenging. But when it comes to the kids in your life, I think I can lend a hand.

My daughter turned 2 a few weeks ago, and while I was watching her open birthday presents, I realized something. At this age, she didn’t feign excitement over gifts, and she didn’t hold back when she really loved something. It turns out that her favorites didn’t require any batteries or assembly, no fancy wrapping or Cyber Monday savings. Her favorites were the books.

Her eyes lit up when she saw them in the bag, and she pulled each one close before flipping through the pages. When she finished, she looked up at me, my husband, and my parents, and said sweetly, “More books!”

I suppose that shouldn’t come as a surprise to me. After all, one of the first things she asks for when she wakes up is a book, she loves reading to her stuffed animals, and she requests story time with us every night before she goes to sleep. So if she wants more books, I can definitely get on board with that, especially with the holidays right around the corner.

Do you love the idea of giving books, too? Then you need to hear about PJ Library. It’s a free book and music delivery program for kids aged 6 months to 6.5 years. (PJ stands for pajamas, since many families sit down to read stories together at bedtime.)

You can give the gift of PJ to any child, and each month they’ll receive a new book, carefully selected by a committee of writers, early childhood professionals, and content specialists, who seek out compelling stories, captivating illustrations, and diverse perspectives on Jewish customs and practice.

A new book every single month. How cool is that? Long after the excitement of the holiday season ends, after the New Year isn’t so new, after the winter snow melts and the summer strawberries have all been picked, the books will continue to arrive all wrapped up in a soon-to-be-familiar padded blue and white envelope.

Another thing that’s so great about PJ is how the books grow with your child. They’ll continue to receive age-appropriate stories, from simple board books to more advanced literature for older kids. And while the books all have Jewish elements and touch upon Jewish culture in a really accessible way, the themes are universal — from sharing to expressing gratitude to being a good friend.

So whether you’re a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or friend, this gift is sure to bring joy to the children you love. Learn more about how you can give the gift of PJ Library today, and make Chanukah, an upcoming birthday, or any day more special.

A gift-giving tip: There’s some processing time before kids will start receiving their PJ Library books, so consider giving them a new pair of PJs to open this holiday, along with a note that says their books will start arriving soon!
