With Valentine’s Day approaching and prior holiday candy lingering, it’s a tug-of-war between my sugar addiction and healthy eating to adequately fuel myself to keep up with mom life. It’s the same story for my kids — the balance of letting them enjoy a few sweet treats while not overdoing it. This is alongside my lack of love for food preparation and wanting fun treats around for the holidays. The good news is that there are plenty of easy things we can put together to celebrate the holiday without overindulging. With that, here are some healthy Valentine’s snacks for you and your kids to enjoy!

Quick strawberry applesauce

My kids love to eat applesauce alone or paired with protein at dinner. I found this snack not only delicious, but really easy to make thanks to Modern Parents Messy Kids. My 2-year-old turns the bowl upside down asking for more.

Fruit kabobs

If your kids like fruit and you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter and wooden skewers, you are all set to make this Valentine’s snack. We chose watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple, but any fruit works. My girls and I pressed the hearts together on the skewers, and as quickly as they were made, they were eaten.

Heart-shaped apple chips

Another fruit and heart-shaped cookie-cutter combo snack is apple chips. This recipe depends on your oven as it relates to temperature and duration of baking; I used this recipe as a base, but here is what works for our oven:

  • Pre-heat oven to 180-200 degrees F
  • Peel and slice 2-3 apples, thin
  • Press the sliced apples with a heart-shaped cookie-cutter
  • Spread on parchment paper, sprinkle with cinnamon
  • Bake for 20 minutes; remove, flip all the chips, add more cinnamon if desired, and bake for another 20 minutes (check the chips for curling on the edges, which means they’re close to done)

These came out smaller than I anticipated, but I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious, tart taste of the final product. We all love these! Next time, I may double the volume of apples to have more leftovers.

Raspberries filled with a surprise

This is another simple idea, and you can stuff the raspberries with your choice of “surprise.” Our chosen sweet was RX bars for kids since my girls are always stealing mine, and I feel they are healthier than a chocolate chip. I cut the bars up small and stuff them into the raspberries. The kids enjoy them whole or pulled apart to eat the raspberry and bar separately. Bottom line — easy and healthy. Even with the chocolate chips, they are healthier than a lot of other snacks. If you want to be a little fancier, this was a more comprehensive recipe I found.

Grape tomato hearts

I think these are so cute! My kids have a grape tomato obsession, so this was another well-received snack. It’s easy to do by simply cutting the tomatoes at a 45-degree angle (I liked the diagram from this recipe). You can dress up the toothpicks as much or as little as you choose. Add cheese as the front/back of the arrows for an alternative to the version I made.

I hope your family enjoys these quick, easy, and healthy ideas for Valentine’s snacks as much as we did. Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy Valentine’s day.
