Walnut Ink Portraits by Kate True

Boston artist Kate True does ink portrait drawings from life in 15 minutes using a beautiful sepia-toned walnut ink. Painted on archival paper and presented with card backing in a plastic sleeve, these 11 x 14 inch drawings are dry and ready to take home in about 30 minutes.

Esplanade Association Family Adventures

June 16 :: Esplanade, 47 David G Mugar Way, Boston :: FREE

Family Adventures is a FREE series of activities that invites children, teens, and families to visit the Esplanade and learn about an amazing diversity of habitats, animals and plants, all while having fun on the Esplanade.

Explore the Charles River: Saturday, June 16th (Father’s Day!) & July 21st – 10am to 1pm

Enjoy one of two days of free fishing and kayaking. Each day – including a special one for Father’s Day – Esplanade Association staff and professional anglers will teach participants about the history of the Charles River, the fish that live in the River, and threats to water quality.

Butterfly Hollow Opening at Franklin Park Zoo

June 16 – September 3

Don’t miss Butterfly Hollow at Franklin Park Zoo! The popular, seasonal exhibit will open June 16 (weather-permitting). At Butterfly Hollow, guests have the opportunity to stroll through this tranquil environment filled with butterflies. This tented, outdoor exhibit also features several garden beds, a pond, soothing surround-sound music, and new fairy houses to discover throughout the space. Butterfly Hollow will be open through Labor Day, September 3.

MFA Playdates

June 16 :: 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Bring your toddler to enjoy story time and looking activities in the galleries, followed by art making. This weeks theme is “Fun on the Farm.”

Tours leave on a rolling basis starting at 10:15am. Each month focuses on a specific theme. Recommended for children ages 4 and younger with adults. No registration required.

The Playdates ticket desk is located in the Sharf Visitor Center. After you receive your ticket and meet the group’s teacher, head over to the Shapiro Family Courtyard to draw, color, and read while you wait for your tour to leave.

All galleries are stroller accessible; please plan on bringing your stroller on your tour. If desired, a nursing room is available off of the Hemicycle Gallery. Baby changing areas are located in restrooms throughout the Museum.

Stay after the program to explore the Museum on your own or with new acquaintances, and enjoy snacks or lunch in the Garden Cafeteria or Calderwood Courtyard where there is a great selection of kid-friendly options.

Bilingual (Spanish) Playdates start on the first Monday of the month with the educators of Pine Village Preschool for an immersive experience for your child in espanol.

World Cup Open Kick – Concord

June 16 :: 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm :: Free

In celebration of the 21st FIFA World Cup, Super Soccer Stars, in partnership with Concord Recreation, is hosting a free, open kick-around event for fans of soccer young and old!

Outside at Emerson Playground, Super Soccer Stars coaches will be running fun soccer games and activities for kids.

Inside, you can watch the Peru vs. Denmark game, beginning at 12:00pm, the Croatia vs. Nigeria at 3:00pm. There will also be special World Cup activity books and a face painter. This event is open to the public, so mark you calendar & come kick it with us!

Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys Concert

Come see Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys on Saturday, June 16th at 4pm. Enjoy music, refreshments, raffles, and more! $30 family ticket includes up to 6 family members. $10 individual tickets will be available at the door.

Father’s Day Eve Canoe Paddle and Picnic

June 16 :: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm :: $15

Say goodbye to Shabbat with a peaceful evening paddle down the Charles River at Paddle Boston (1071 Soldier’s Field Road) in Boston on Saturday, June 16 from 5-7pm. We’ll end with a brief Havdalah (end of Shabbat), picnic with grape juice and cookies for dessert. Bring your own picnic. Lifejackets provided. Cost is $15/family (covers boat rental for one hour). Celebrate Father’s Day at Franklin Park Zoo

June 17

Help us celebrate your father (and all of ours!) at Franklin Park Zoo this Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, with free admission for all fathers throughout the day. Bring Dad along with the entire family to the Franklin Park Zoo for a memorable day spent discovering all of the incredible animals at each Zoo! Be sure to look for all of the animal dads – say hello to Kit the western lowland gorilla and his offspring Kimani, Kambiri and Azize.

Darci Lynne Headlines the South Shore Music Circus

Musketaquid Summer Solstice Celebration

Begin the Solstice Celebrations by celebrating Riverfest! Test your STEAM skills by making a boat out of cardboard! Can it float? Can you paddle it for 25 yards? There is only one way to find out! Bring your team, and we will provide the materials!

Advance registration required.

After the boat race, enjoy a concert with Sawyer Lawson and his band in The Old Manse Orchard. After roasting marshmallows for s’mores, all are invited to head over to the Old North Bridge and join Voices for the Earth in song.
